He never questioned any of the key terms of the latest theatrical television contract with the exception of when it would expire. And now that he has been appointed to permanent status without SAG enlist a formal search committee
Los Angeles (October 18, 2009) – Screen Actors Guild announced today that its National Board of Directors appointed David P. White as Executive Director and Chief Negotiator. White Guild has been serving as interim Executive Director since January this year
The board approved a contract for two years, by a vote of 70.91% to 29.09% in its national council meeting in Los Angeles this weekend
I congratulate David on this position and look forward to working with him during my presidency.Now we have six open contracts previously ratified, cost savings and administrative improvements in place, and carrying out innovative initiatives. Before meeting with the staff union, where he served as General Counsel from 2002 to 2006, White was Senior Manager of Los Angeles, Entertainment Strategies Group (ESG) providing consulting services to the entertainment industry
During his tenure as General Counsel’s Guild, White led the organization and personnel management, legal person of 40 years, and played a central role in contract negotiations, strategic planning efforts and diversity programs
A graduate of Stanford Law School and a Rhodes Scholar, White was a labor and employment attorney at O’Melveny & Myers LLP, before joining the ranks of executives from the SAG. Before law school, White served as Executive Director of the neighborhood, nonprofit Youth Opportunities Unlimited, Inc. also consulted by the Department of Justice, the Chapin Hall Center for Children (University of Chicago) and a variety of areas urban development projects in the United States, England and South Africa
He is the former co-chairman of the Labor Law and Entertainment Sports Standing Committee of the Bar Association of the United States. He is currently Chairman of the Board of Trustees of his alma mater, Grinnell College, and was appointed by the Mayor of Los Angeles as Commissioner for urban planning and development. White has served on the Advisory Board of the Association of Media and Entertainment lawyer and member of the Advisory Board of the LA Posse Foundation, an organization dedicated to the expansion and leadership of educational opportunities for students to through Los AngelesBlanco has been selected as “Southern California Super Lawyer – Rising Star” and has received numerous awards for his work and service throughout his career.
Blanco has been a contributing writer for Los Angeles Lawyers and as a frequent commentator on trends in the entertainment industry, was quoted on National Public Radio “Marketplace”, and the Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles, Los Angeles Daily Journal, The Hollywood Reporter, Daily Variety, Broadcasting & Cable, and other publications
